At the indoor range yesterday, we heard a booming thunder roll across the lanes. I eventually went down to see what it was. A guy had a Ruger 45-70 lever action rifle with a fairly short barrel (I didn't ask). He offered to let me fire a round. It seemed rude to refuse. The recoil wasn't as bad as I expected from things I've read. The short barrel probably helped reduce it. It had a good recoil pad on it, too.

Perhaps the reason I like spreadsheets so much is that, unlike real life, I can control what happens there.
