Auroras Possible

Post by Darrell »

You might have heard, there was an X class solar flare a day or so ago from the big AR 1520 sunspot group presently facing us. The coronal mass ejection is due to hit Earth today, and may produce visible auroras, possibly even down into mid latitudes. Here's one site to monitor:

To the north, I assume? I didn't hear of anything happening this far south. I haven't been able to access the Spaceweather site today to check, though. Well, trying again just now, I can get in:

Though most pics are from more northerly states, there are two from MO and AR. Huh. It was pretty cloudy here when I went to bed last night...

ETA: Oops, and there is one pic from northern Colorado:

From the author's description, it was early this morning. He mentioned seeing the Moon/Venus/Jupiter conjunction in the east before sunrise. Dang.
