Should I go to the horror & sci-fi convention? UPDATED!

Post by sam »

Never been to a sci-fi or horror convention, but my nephew wants to go.

Whaddya think? Does this look worthwhile?

Definitely. Richard Hatch is a great guest, and I hear that Wheaton is as well. I don't know anything specific about this convention, but then it's well out of my area.

It's FUN.

Erin's a wonderful lady, and the con people are very fun. (And more than a few know their Military and weaponry.)

If you see Mad Mike Williamson, you'll have more fun than should be legal. The man has stories galore!

OK, I'm going, but how do I ensure Erin and Apollo from BSG:TOS are there to see?

Yup, fixing A/C units in an "undisclosed desert location", and is planning to become a Sheik.

He's been waiting for his return date since last month, I think he's actually overdue to return.

Yes. Go. And bring back pictures.

OK, I'm back. Went fairly early, but all the "celebrities" were there.

My impressions? Pretty small, for what it was. The reptile show two weekends ago was bigger. At least it wasn't very crowded, and I got to talk to just about anyone I wanted.

Except Erin Gray. She didn't show until well after lunch, and was pretty well mobbed the whole time. Got to hear her story on how she was sucked in to doing her one horror movie, though. She seems very nice.

Oh, and the guy who played twiggy (and cousin "it," and an Ewok) was right next to Erin.

Richard Hatch is quite the trouper. Never left his table the whole time I was there. He didn't charge for anything, and would talk to you as long as you wanted. Told him about my idea for an Apollo/Apollo '08 bumper sticker. He liked that. He also laughed at that Tigh/Roslyn idea. Said he never had thought of that.

Aaron Douglas (ex-Chief Tyrol) was another good one. We talked at length. I asked him if we would ever see "Callie" again, and he said he didn't know, as he hadn't seen any of the last ten episodes.

Whil Wheaton is a tool for Obama. Was handing out Obama stickers. Didn't get many takers, though. Said he was invited to the "de-commisioning" of the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas, but couldn't go because he was sick. He had heard they might open a Star Trek museum in downtown Vegas.

Which is what Sean Kenny (Capt. Christopher Pike from Star Trek) had also heard. Another nice guy.

Herbert Jefferson, Jr. ("Boomer" from the original BSG) seems to have a stick up his butt.

Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes I & II) is not as smart as he thinks he is.

Bought a just released, 30th anniversery collector's edition, DVD of "Hardware Wars" from Ernie Fosselius (writer and director) himself. He even autographed it.

Not bad for three hours and ten bucks.

When I/we go to events, or sometimes even just shopping I always wear an American flag pin on a pocket or collar. If I get offered an Obama anything I just say "No thank you, it doesn't go with this" and touch my flag pin. Its happened twice.

Got some really great angry sputters. ;)
