The Gun Counter

Spent part of last night chit-chatting in the hotel lobby with David Weber about the future of the Honor-verse. [spoiler]You won't believe who the Manticorian Star [strike]Kingdom[/strike]Empire ends up allied with...[/spoiler] This afternoon I got to hear David Drake reading from the RCN novel that he's got in the works. Tonight should involve much drinking, with Doc Taylor likely to show up at the room party I'll be haunting. Said room party being hosted by several real life mad scientists from the USDA.

I'm jealous.

I gotta strange feeling I may know where that alliance is headed.

I did get to meet David Drake many moons ago when I was still working part time at a book store. A real mensch. My main source of discomfort around him is how illiterate an uneducated I felt listening to him.

Closest I've ever come to David Drake was when I stopped by a Waldenbooks in his home town of Chapel Hill, NC and found a whole mess of autographed paperbacks. The clerks said that he dropped by a few times a month to sign copies for them. "Can't miss him," he said, "just look for the guy in motorcycle leathers pulling books off the shelf and signing them."

After reading STORM FROM THE SHADOWS I, like Randy, have a kind'a sort'a idea about whom the Star Empire will align with and who it'll fight.

I can believe it.

I am vice-chair of a sci-fi con in Richmond VA. The year before I joined the staff we had John Ringo as a guest. If I had my choice , I'd set up a con with the entire stable of Baen authors....


Weber is going to be a guest at MarsCon in Williamsburg, VA in January.

At ShevaCon in 2004, was able to get a picture of David Drake firing my M14, first time he's held one since serving in Vietnam. Very nice guy. Helped out with some issues when I was serving in Iraq with Blackwater.

And who knows where Mr. Weber is going to take things. Going to be a long journey though.
