Neil Gaiman quote

Post by Cybrludite »

The full version of the new quote in my sig. Got hit with an unpleasant Dear John-ing recently, which brought it to mind.
“Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love.”

On the plus side, I'm a very friendly guy. Wherever I go, women just want to be friends with me...

Sorry to hear it also. I don't remember your age, but if you're young it will pass and those girls will turn into women one day and change their "friend" view.

If you're old, I'll go shut up now.

This reminds me of this scene from the Wedding Singer!

Oh and I mean this in the best way possible! Sometimes you just need to laugh at your situation.
Robbie: [singing] You love her/ but she loves him/ but he loves somebody else/ you just can't win/ and so it goes until the day you die/ this thing called love is going to make you cry. I hate you/ I've had the blues the reds and the pinks/ One thing's for sure.
[holds microphone to fat man]
Fat Man: Love stinks?
Robbie: Love stinks/ Yeah yeah
[holds microphone to fat man]
Fat Man: Love stinks!
Robbie: Love stinks/ Yeah, yeah
[holds microphone to lady with sideburns]
Sideburns Lady: Love stinks.
Robbie: Love stinks. Yeah yeah.
[holds microphone to table 9]
Table 9: Love stinks.
Robbie: Love stinks/ Yeah yeah.
[Bride's father punches Robbie, Robbie falls back on a table. Bride's father jumps on him and pushes and pulls him]
Robbie: Love stinks/ Love stinks/*Love stinks!*
Years from now our children and grandchildren living in a 3rd world America will ask "What were you doing on March 21st 2010 and why didn't you stop it?"

Well, I'm not young. Main problem seems to be that any lady smart enough for me to fall for is going to be too smart to fall for me. :|

Ah, the friend zone. I believe John Ross had some advice for that kind of thing on his "In Range" website.

Of course, you could always write a song...
Oh, the heads that turn
Make my back burn
And those heads that turn
Make my back, make my back burn
