Shades of the 1936 Olympics?

Post by g-man »

Is anybody else getting a '36 vibe from the Olympics?

Flagrant human rights abuses by the host country pretty much ignored by the world? Check.
Authoritarian regime 'showing off' for the rest of the world? Check.
The 'Russians' are technically banned, but not - either way they're in attendance this time, but there's a general funk from their direction (Doping, etc)

Might just be me, but given the current geopolitical machinations going on, I thought I'd share.

I just had to shake my head at the whole "Russia is banned, but the athletes are allowed to participate as representatives of the Russian Olympic Committee" line of BS.

As if the Russian Olympic Committee was its own, independant organization.

Yeah… and one their rockstars popped hot anyway. We’re a couple of days behind because we’re watching stuff we recorded on the DVR with the kids (and having geography discussions), but I ran across the whole doping thing with Valiyeva (sp?) in the sidebar while reading another news article. Not surprised.

Everyone got food in 1936.
