Earlier tonight I had occasion to watch John Wayne in the Fighting Seabees... again. Must have seen it a hundred times.

But tonight I noticed something that for some reason I never noticed before.

The Japanese were armed with Krag rifles.

I remember working with a former Seabee. The interesting detail to me is that sailors of the preriod seem to get more training in marksmanship than they did after the period. He said as Seabees they got aditional training in combat shooting , and in his opinion were closer to Marines in fighting. ?

One of my great-uncles on Dad's side was a Seabee. He was at Peleliu, which he never wanted to talk about.

There are Phib (Amphibous) Seabees and regular Seabees (both Navy). The Phib ones are basically combat engineers for the Marines, so that is probably what you are seeing.
