AWESOME.

If you're any kind of fan of the Marvel-verse, this is a pound of crack.
It delivers on afterburner.
Being a Marvel flick, you will want to stay for the credits.
ALL the credits.

And you'll love Stan Lee's cameo.

Personally, I think you should see this movie while you're waiting in line to see this movie. Then see it.
And then see it again. It kicks ass.

{Full disclosure: I saw this one for free on the lot tonight. I usually pay for my tickets, but I was there already, and ten bucks is ten bucks. I'll probably see it again on my own nickel this weekend. They let us know it had already made $100M overseas as of 7PM PDT. I suspect it may even double that this weekend in domestic gross, and be utterly ginormous overall. If movies were people, this movie is Chuck Norris.}

It requires near-zero commitment in backstory.
But if you have any, it will pay off even more.

Oh, and did I mention it kicks ass.

Not least of which because it shoots a submarine full of torpedoes into the idea of an over-arching state security apparatus. (Jeh Johnson, call your office.)
If you tried to make this movie straight, it would have come off like Atlas Shrugged, and been lampooned as political screed.
THIS is how you leave Easter Eggs for decades in the culture wars.

I really liked all the crazy over the top Dieselpunk tech in the first movie but I suppose that was a one shot. Perhaps they can send Captain America back in time at some point.

I can't really decide if 10 year old me would have liked all the crazy WWII stuff in the movie or would have derided it as historically inaccurate piffle.

My only problem is that in my mind the term "Winter Soldier" is linked to the congressional testimony of John F***ing Kerry (He served in Vietnam you know) in the early 70's.

I repeat: no spoilers.

But kinda nice when a mainstream movie ties the concept of "brainwashed traitorous totalitarian collaborator" to our current SecState, no? ;)
And I think the connection is about as unintentional as clubbing baby harp seals. 8-)

Yep, did enjoy.

ETA: Can't wait for Guardians of the Galaxy. I was a bit worried how they were going to pull off a Raccoon, but it looks great.

Okay, I screwed up and saw it in IMAX and 3-D. I don't think I want to watch 3-D movies any more. It totally screws up viewing pleasure. As for the movie? It was great! Everything everyone else has said and more. I'm surprised the studios let it be made with the storyline.

The reason is simple its done by Marvel, and not by any outside studio they still have a bad taste in their mouth from what others have done with their licensed properties, so their very careful about turning out good work.

Too bad DC hasn't learned the same lesson.'

So, if you saw it in IMAX WITHOUT 3D, it would be okay????

YES! The 3-D forces you to focus on one spot on the screen, everything else is blurred. IMAX is just BIG and very clear. The sound was a little (say earthquake inducing) loud but that's just the setting, and I mentioned that to the theater staff. You can catch a lot more details, which I noticed during the non 3-D previews. 3-D is an unnecessary gimmick that allows theaters to charge an arm and a leg for a ticket. Mine were 15 bucks each, with a senior discount.

Gotta repeat that this is a great action movie and, of course, there's an Easter Egg during the cast roll at the end. Marvel has done surprisingly well with their movies, except for the Hulk (terrible). Agents of SHIELD had an explanation show about all the titles a couple of weeks ago, you might find it on the ABC website. This ties into the series too.
