Anybody see it just now? America The Beautiful, sung in a bunch of different languages, with all sorts of ethnicities shown? It was supposed to be shot in different parts of the country, showing how diverse we really are, but many of those shots looked like they were actually in foreign countries.

I'm expecting a shit storm over this one.

As for me, if Coke is that heavily on the "DIVERSITY! All Cultures Are Equal! Everybody, Hug An Immigrant!" Well, I'm done with them.

Because they have a huge soapbox and a lot of people are seriously influenced by this stuff, especially the young. I just see it as a further slide into decline. It irks me.

As I was watching the commercial, I said "who ever that is, I just bought my last of their product." Conveniently, it was Coke. I already don't buy their product.

At least Renee Fleming did the National Anthem. Which was a most welcome change.

Coca-Cola is one of the few completely global brands. Their major ads have always been the "we are the world" type.

We are a nation, founded on NOTHING other than ideals. The idea, at the inception, was that the "American Experiment" was to spread throughout the world. This, still, has to be our fundamental goal, as we cannot share a globe w. socialism.

The more I've banged around, the less I've come to accept the idea of "countries" as meaningful. There are cultures, and nations - but, more or less, you have those who love liberty, against those who would oppress us.

Lovers of freedom will have more in common with one another, no matter the country, than they will ever have in common with the socialist neighbor.

With all due respect, Ag, the commercial is probably already available online. Watch it first, then, if your opinion is the same, so be it.

Yeah - no problem w. it - fairly certain it was shot completely in the US. I realize there's the whole "speak English" thing now w. conservatives, (and the token hijab was a bit irritating, as that is directly in conflict w. the idea of America.), but:

My ancestors were, rather actively, involved in the American Revolution - we kept speaking German as the primary language - along w. all of the neighbors, until WWII - at which point some Germanic people stopped speaking it voluntarily, and some stopped as FDR used the FBI to engage in various forms of tyranny.

The Alamo was fought, in large part, by Hispanics - Sam Houston was highest commander, but Juan Jose Seguin was the second highest.

I think the whole speak english thing is significant. Without a common language, and secure borders, you really aren't a sovereign nation.

I remember. The hippy commercial. One of the earliest things I remember seeing on TV. Then, when I was in HS, they did a recreation, where the original singers came back with their kids. I'm not saying it is surprising. I am saying I do not care for it.
