Yeah.... Found what seemed to be a neat post-apocalyptic zombie series.... Until I noticed who wrote it....

Wondering if its any good and any different from Mr. Ringo's other work. I'm very particular about my apocalyptic/zombie pulp... Mr. Correia is only one to get it right. (MHI hints the apocalypse and has zombies. It counts) However Monster Hunter Nemesis will not be available until late next year. I'll get bored before then, and I tend to get very bad/crazy ideas whenever I get bored.

So I hope that this series might be the answer. I can stomach a great deal that might be in the book as long as I am not reminded that Mr. Ringo is a dirty old bastard.... Yeah... To remind you once more I read maybe a 1/4 (that's being generous) of Ghost, and I came to that conclusion.... I'd prefer that I don't go through that again...

Worth it? Can it at least save me from boredom? Do I need to bleach my eyes and scrub my brain clean with a belt grinder after reading?

It's good, nothing like Ghost, and I'm a character in the book. Just read the damned thing.

The elements in Ghost that you object to are not present in the majority of Ringo's other work.

Zombies are real. And we made them. Are you prepared for the zombie apocalypse? The Smith family is, with the help of a few marines.

That sounds incredibly dull. The cover art doesn't grab me, either. Has she been trapped in a dance club for the entire apocalypse?

Besides subjective tastes on writing, apparently these days it's a crapshoot as to whether you're actually going to read something he put effort into, or something he typed with one hand. On that note, it appears that he put "rape" down twice on his application.

Also, I think he once argued that the zombie apocalypse is possible once horny biochem students figure out how to make rape-mind-control pheromones. Or something like that.

Got it while recuperating and read it through in about 8 hours. Not bad. The reason for the zombies is good, leaves the villain out there for the rest of the series and raises serious questions about preparedness, the fall of civilization, and the reaction of people. I read the first three books of the Ghost series and thought it was Ringo's weakest efforts.

Best post-apocalyptic "we survived but so did they" novel is FEED by my friend Seanan McGuire.

I really dislike the main in Ghost. Read the Posleen series for admirable Ringo characters.

The protagonist in this series is more like the protagonist in his Posleen series than the Paladin of Shadows series: just a kickass warrior with two kickass girls and a wife who gets mentioned less and less as the series goes on. So yeah, none of the whole underage hookers and BDSM stuff.
I've enjoyed it enough to buy the eARCs of both books.
