And if what we've been exposed to lately is any indicator, then we've truly lived through a musical golden age. I guess it had to end sometime.

Not too many people alive today who actually heard music from the 1930's thru the 40's when it was fresh and new. The music from the 1960's and later will "[strike]Not[/strike] Fade Away" , too.
"Hey, hey, bye-bye....Rock and Roll will [strike]never[/strike] die".

I cut my Pink Floyd teeth on The Wall, but then I started to move backward in time, preferring the material from before Waters really too the lead. Although, I must say, I really like Wish You Were Here.

It does lose *some* appeal when, as in my college dorm freshman year, some morose fucker leaves it (sometimes the whole album, sometimes just the song) on infinite repeat for DAYS. Same reason why I also can't tolerate a few other songs he used to play (yes, on infinite loop for days at a time) like 'Kayleigh'.

'Welcome to the Machine' is still one of my favorites though, for whatever that says about me.

I like the whole album so much I have a hard time distinguishing a particular, favorite song.

There was a lot of that stuff in the ET-shop on the Shasta, Pink Floyd, Journey, Kansas, Queen, Boston, and some other less memorable bands, and I thought some of them were pretty good. Our stereo system was better than the one in the wardroom and our space was sound-proof, so our younger techs could rock on. Everything was fine until a roach turned up in the communal ashtray,..... And in or approaching their 70s, any one of the guys on that list has more musical talent in his little finger than if you assembled an entire concertaplooza of todays rap/pop/crapola air-brushed pitch-shifted talentless trashy hacks. Even Prince, at 55, runs rings around today's special snowflake crew of miserable would-be musicians.

You left out "autotuned"

Thought I covered it with pitch-shifted, otherwise I'd have included it as well. I certainly meant to include it, covered with a frosting of bile and defecation in their general direction.

The only era of music as pre-fabbed was disco, and the number of undertalented "artists" who survived that over-produced debacle could be counted on one's thumbs.

A large part of the death of the music industry hasn't been the technology, it's been the fact that they keep foisting such puerile vomit on would-be customers, and audiences are staying away in droves, whereas bands old enough to get discounts at Denny's are raking in cash on revival tours at levels that shame today's pop slop stars.

But everything's better auto-tuned!
