KILTS AND TARTANS, LADDIES!!!

Post by skb12172 »

I'm trying to decide, for an upcoming function, which family tartan is most appropriate for me to wear. On my mother's side, I have O'Farrell. On my dad's side, Anderson. If I were a Jew and they wore kilts it wouldn't be an issue, since they have the practical view of favoring the mother's side of the family. Afterall, the father could, technically, be ANYONE, but there's no doubt as to the mother's identity.

So...for all you Scotch/Irish rabble (I'm looking at YOU, Mr. Byrne), which is the more appropriate tartan for me to wear?

Please don't say "either," since left to my own devices, I couldn't decide and, anyway, that's not a very helpful answer.

You don't have a family tartan, it's a load of crap made up in the Victorian era when Queen Vic was getting boned ( allegedly ) by her Scottish Ghillie and the sheeple thought everything Scottish was bloody marvellous.
The range of tartans expanded exponentially when the Scots realised that stupid fucking Americans would pay $$$ for some bullshit link to their " roots "

That link was interesting, but confusing. What would a Donovan wear? Supposedly my grandmother's second husband (my biological grandfather) was a man by that name. Of course, as an Alaskan I am entitled to wear whatever pattern Carhartt offers.

Personally, I'd avoid the Anderson tartan, it's kinda, well, homely...
Fortunately, I'm a Graham so I don't have that problem. ;)

So, in that tradition, wear the colors of whatever you feel the most allied with - red/white/blue, state colors, those of the alma mater, family silks, etc.

Donovan have their own (Ó Donnabháin)..

They can also wear the limerick, and Munster plaids.
By all means, let us embrace tribalism. sigh
