A little bit of levity on this otherwise tragic day...

Watch the trailer-giant robots fighting even more giant monsters. Am I right in this being the greatest terrible movie ever even conceived?

Just the other day I was reading a humor column in the Japan Times online English version that said Japan needs to get back into the Godzilla and other monster themed movie business again to boost spirits and exports. Looks like Hollywood jumped the gun on them and ripped off some of their favorite anime themes, Giant Mecha vs. Godzilla .

I want to see the movie that shows the monster climbing out of the sea, taking a 120mm tank round in the gizzard, dropping instantly dead, and the rest of the movie about how to process all that sea food. "Hey Watanabe San, all day, all you can eat sushi at the beach."

I believe this one has been mentioned elsewhere on the forum, but I watched it in bits and pieces over the last two days and was rather pleasantly surprised:

Space Battleship Yamato (full 2010 version, running time about 138 minutes)

A survivor of the last mission of the IJN Yamato wrote a book called "Requiem for the Battleship Yamoto."
Printing of the book was delayed by allied occupation forces, when it finally was printed it generated controversy on both the American and Japanese side of things. The author was a radar officer on the Yamato and in the beginning of the book he explains that they knew the mission was militarily useless, that they would die and they probably wouldn't even slow the Americans down, but the Bushido of the times demanded they follow orders. After he got back to Japan he thought about why he survived and all those other good men died horribly, survivors guilt in other words.
They made a gritty movie based on the book using the title of the book.
A few excerpts from the movie were used in making this Youtube video:

"HORY SHIT!" Oh, God, I laughed so hard. But I only made it to 2:55 before I had to turn it off.
