The original '60s George Barris Batmobile sold for $4.2M tonight at the Barrett Jackson auto auctions. Barris is still alive, and was carrying on like a crazy old man at the auction.

IIRC, he once said in an interview that the original would only go about 35 mph.

Yeah, a Holman Moody 427 was a slug

The one used in the Micheal Keaton/Nicholson "Batman" was an over weight 283 powered Impala, but the original only did 35...Might want to do a little more research...

Compared to say, a race 426 Hemi?
Pretty much. the current SS/AA 426's are making north of 850 hp, using factory blocks and heads(admittedly, they are ported, but they must maintain the factory port volume of 168ccmin/174max)

Who cares how fast it will go on the highway. Just think how cool you would look cruising down your local main street.

Hell yeah! Nothing attracts the ladies like running around with a bowling ball candle over your head, except maybe the batmobile.
