Warning about a writer

Post by Rod »

Picked up a new book at the PX today, got it home and started reading. First two pages, I realized I had an anti-gun, pro-wildlife (in the bad way) writer. Book's called Trapped by April Christofferson. First chapter, the park ranger is carrying a generic 9 millimeter (if I'm not mistaken, they're carrying .40s now), a kid's killed a friend with a "Colt 45", and the ranger starts confiscating guns from others in the campground without cause. Christofferson has a website for those interested here. Her next book is about the dangers of, here, right from her website
Her next novel, Grizzly Justice, focuses on the great Spirit Bear (the grizzly) and the danger that lead poisoning represents to wildlife, in particular, raptors.

Just read an article in one of the gun magazines that the lead in ammunition is nothing like the lead in paint and presents no real danger to wildlife.
one can be a Democrat, or one can choose to be an American.
Good acting requires an imagination; reality requires a person not getting lost in their imagination.

On the opposite end of that wildlife mgmt spectrum I've enjoyed the Joe Pickett series since discovering them last year.

I wonder if she's any relation to Kris Kristofferson?

The "Spirit Bear" isn't even a grizzly, at least not the one I've heard of. That term usually refers to the Kermode bear, which is a rare white phase of black bear that is only found on the coast of BC and the southern tip of southeast Alaska, and generally only on the islands. They are already highly protected. As for lead poisoning, I must concede that she has a point there. I have personally witnessed wildlife dying of acute lead poisoning on numerous occasions.
