6'5" and a 50" chest would be more like 335 if in good shape, maybe 340.

Damn. I am starting to feel like a shrimp.
I am now 228lbs, 6'1", and 47" chest. Dunno my body fat, but I am a 35-36" waist.

I saw the trailer and was going to comment but you've covered most of it. He doesn't talk as much as Cruise did and I never got the feeling Reacher was real fond of autos or could drive them like a NASCAR driver. Sorry but this is a possible flop on what could have been a great series.

I liked the first 6 or 8 of the series then I kind of lost interest.

I like the books generally as "airplane reading"....
Lee Child himself apparently backed Cruises selection. It wouldn't matter to me as much if Reachers bulk wasn't a critical element and deterrent in so many of the novels. The other thing I noticed is that Cruise is waaaay too clean-cut. Reacher is a drifter, Cruises collar was perfectly manicured. Ill probably rent the DVD for the action porn, but the best way for me to watch is to separate "Book Reacher" from "movie Reacher".

I like your David James Elliot thought, but seeing the trailer makes me think this is definitely a "The Rock" movie,

About 1 in 1000 movie viewers _may_ have any familiarity with the character and book. Box office and "can he carry it" is prolly foremost in the mind of the producers and casting.

You know I was tempted to suggest Tahmoh Penikett (aka Helo), but it's hard to argue against Adam Baldwin.CByrneIV wrote:Hmm... Given I'm such a huge fan, I'm surprised I didn't think about it before...
But Adam Baldwin is PERFECT for Jack Reacher, and he's 6'4, strong, quiet, and god knows he plays military well.

I think they still kinda botched it. I never read the books, but there was a disconnect in the movie, where someone was described as capable of killing a girl "with one punch" when you saw him. Reacher is supposed to fit the bill, but Tom Cruise does not. Still, it was an okay movie. Got me thinking about reading the series
