I just saw two episodes of American Diggers and am amazed with the show...Not with the abysmal acting, staged scenes, the big tzslob screaming out over some find but at the astronomical prices he's getting for junk, pure unmitigated, unadulterated, kaa-kaa, poo-poo, crap junk.
I saw the Tombstone, AZ and the Alaska episodes...AZ they find a Remington revolver that the "dealer" calls a .22 and it's a .44/45 by the barrel thickness but the gun was without grips; cylinder, loading lever and trigger rusted closed...They also find half the side plate (you can see where the thing exploded) and a twisted barrel to a Sharp's rifle and the lady in the antiques store says they like and know their guns there in Tombstone...They get $3,750.
Alaska they find a mattock head (c 1930s), a two man crosscut saw (c. 1930s) and a Newhouse Nbr 12 Bear trap (c. 1950s) and they get $8,000
This has to be staged pricing or are there so many absolutely stupid collectors out there who’ll pay those kind of prices for pure junk? If those stores are buying that crap for those prices what are they buying genuine, intact items for or more importantly what are they selling them at.
Ok, the bear trap was worth in the $3,000 range easily but the other stuff.
They previewed the next show and they show a rifle barrel that was bent into a hook shape and the tzslob says it was done so they could hang their pots over the fire with it problem though, it didn’t have a secondary bend to go over the cross beam.

There is a certain type of mentality that thinks if you make certain inanimate objects illegal their criminal misuse will disappear!

I hadn't heard of that show yet, but Alaska is just a horrible place in general to go looking for antiques. Not much old stuff made it up here in the first place, and what did, got almost entirely used up. The conditions here are kind of hard on equipment.

There is a reason I don't watch any "reality" TV...

AZ is similar. Nobody lived here until the 40's, and the sun simply destroys most things.

Yup. Pawn Stars is tolerable so long as they don't try to introduce hokey secondary stories. I recently watched some aquarium show (there's an hour of my life I won't get back) about installing large numbers of aquariums in some brand-new stadium in Florida, and I wanted to beat the "boss" to death with my Business Management degree, because everyone was out to lunch in terms of working together, and if I had heard (second hand, never mind TO me) some of the things said, I would seek other employment immediately.rightisright wrote:There is a reason I don't watch any "reality" TV...
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .
