And she takes a HARD hit when slamming into the wall (new safer walls which flex and absorb impacts more than standard concrete barriers). Her car hardley slowed at all before slamming into the wall. I bet she's going to be sore and feel a little beat-up after that impact!! I know a LOT of guys who'd LOVE to give her a rub-down to help her muscles relax after such a bashing!!  ;) ;) ;) :D

Danica did something I hadn't seen any other driver perform as she headed into the wall - she removed her hands from the steering wheel and held them up near her helmet, an instinctive move from racing with open wheels. It's a real good way to keep your hands and wrists from being damaged as the wheel gets wrenched on impact - a VERY smart move!!

Don't forget, the Daytona 500 is this Sunday.

I don't recall ever seeing a hit that hard. Then again, I don't really follow NASCAR closely. She'd be toast if that were a solid concrete barrier.

Yep. Another great season of driving in circles for a reason.

That's okay, they're still pushing the performance envelope and some of the crashes are spectacular. ;) ;)

Most drivers can never get to that space in their heads. They have a need to try and control it, even though they know intellectually they aren't going to. Their emotions just won't let them stop.
Send them to Anchorage and make them drive in our traffic for a couple of winters.

So, during the real race she gets bumped off, by her teammate.

Some days it just doesn't pay to get outta bed.

Yeah, but in years past, that kinda' hit would have sent her to the hospital, or even the morgue. Automobile safety has come a LONG ways since then, and some of it is incorporated into our daily driver cars.

They keep trying to "save the bird" and they're damn sure that they'll get her back in "just one more second". They keep saying "just one more second" over and over again all the way into the ground.
My understanding is that the only reason a pilot should ride down the plane is if he is doing so to keep it from hitting a populated area.
