Not a remake of the Charlie Sheen classic either.

It started out as a training video and things just sort of ballooned:

Act of Valor has an unusual backstory. The film, directed by Mike “Mouse” McCoy and Scott Waugh, started out as a training video for Navy SEALS. The Navy liked what they saw so much that they decided to turn it into a documentary.

Then, they decided to make a feature, and hired screenwriter Kurt Johnstad (300) to create a fictional story about a squad that goes on a covert mission to recover a kidnapped CIA agent.

Another interesting aspect of the upcoming feature, which will hit theaters on February 17, is that the SEALS are played by actual SEALS. The bad guys, however, are played by actors, including Emilio Rivera and Roselyn Sanchez.

Too bad they can't get Rosie "The Whale" O'Donnel and Michael "The Fuckin' Fat Pig" Moore as some of the bad guys who get slaughtered (and suddenly discover *SOMEONE* had switched the magazines with live ammo). That would do us and the WORLD a HUGE favor!!

Oh well, we can wish, can't we?!?!?!?!? :D  :D

Nearly all of the action sequences are performed with live ammunition delivered on target by real operators.
The same people that made the film also made the "SWCC" video here:

I was in SBU-22 when the last "regular guy" got awarded the SWCC warfare designation (at least there...) At that point, you earned it like ESWS. After that, they made the qualifications and created a school nearly as stringent as BUDs. Can't just let anybody earn a high speed, low drag designation ya know??? I wasn't there for very long, but I was happy to leave. The new boats look cool, but I never got to go on one of those. The bulk of the unit then was made up of Vietnam era PBR MK II's and mini ATC's. The funny thing is the Navy threw guys into the Brown Water Navy haphazardly for decades. Now....

I have to admit, the new stuff looks fun, but I don't really see where a SWCC is doing anything the regular old, everyday 11B or 0300 isn't except in a limited and highly specialized environment.

As for actual Seals in the new movie- there were actual seals in the 1990 movie. I can identify one in particular by name.
