Texan currency

Working on my post-apocalypse-ish "US splits up into a number of different countries" game setting again, and pondering what to call Texas' currency. So far, the US & CSA both use their own dollars, the People's Republic of the Northern Star calls their money "Stars", and the Big Sky Confederation uses "Bucks". (With an antelope on the one, a mule deer on the five, an elk on the ten, a moose on the twenty, and Alvis Edgar Owens on the hundred... Yeah, the folks in the BSC are a bit... off.) Aztlan, Mexico, Chiapas, & the Rio Grande Republic all use Pesos of some sort or another. (Though I might shift one of them to use "Reals" to give some variety) As they're one of the more important successor states, I'd rather give Texas a more distinctive currency than just a "Dollar" or a "Peso". Any suggestions?

I cant help but think that Stars would be the obvious choice for the Lone Star state. The star is such an obvious symbol for Texas that it would probably be the first thing that people thought of if they wanted a new currency.

Ducats would be cool... That, or something referring to BTUs or barrels - I presume your new Texas is still an energy producing area.

Of course, the state was in debt up to its eyeballs the entire time

Hence why the Feds had to step in in 1846

I like "redbacks" as the currency name though.

Paper currency would probably be called "Austins" or "Houstons" or something like that, at least colloquially, though officially they would probably be dollars.

That or they would use grams Au.
