Yeah, that is very sad.

I wouldn't watch Dr Who nowadays, but it was a very important and enjoyable part of my childhood. Sarah Jane was the assistant I remember the best.

I'm sorry to hear of her passing. OT, I got to meet John Pertwee at the local PBS station during a pledge week. He showed incredible kindness toward an 8 year old girl and was a delight to talk to.

Like so many great British actors\comedians who became famous in the 60's and 70's he was a WW2 veteran. A Royal Navy officer.

He was in a radio comedy series called " The Navy Lark " which was way before my time, but I find hilarious. I don't know how well the humour would translate into US cultural terms. Find it on the web and see what you think.

My Dr Who connection is that I went to school with one of Tom Bakers sons. He was a couple of years older than me and we didn't really interact much at all, but I remember him as being someone who had a good reputation because he didn't try to make any capital out of his dads fame and was basically just a nice guy.

They say your favorite Doctor is the first one you watched. For me that Was Tom Baker, in 1980, when the local PBS station started running the show. Besides Sarah Jane, my favorite companions were Romana I, played by Mary Tamm, and Romana II, played by Lalla Ward.

That's the one I remember. Sad to hear of her untimely passing.
