I'm really excited for this game. I've been a fan of "film noir" inspired ones since the original
Max Payne, and recently it seems traditional noir time settings are getting attention (
Mafia II, anyone?). Hopefully
L.A. Noire won't make the same mistake
Mafia II did: Taking a city with such atmosphere, great acting and a terrific soundtrack and combining it with such a tightly railroaded style of gameplay. I can't help but get worked up every time I watch the trailers.

Yeah, so far it seems a lot of people have been weirded out by how emotive the faces are compared to the bodies. I don't know if I've been gaming too long, or what, but I don't really notice.

Would it really kill these designers to have the damn hammer cocked on a 1911?

So far I am working my way being a detective in LA, and it is very enjoyable. The character models are certainly a highlight.
Anyone else?

I've been playing nearly all weekend, and I'm in Homicide right now, working an apparent string of copycat killings. This game really doesn't pull any punches.

As a member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race I will be unable to play this game, at least until it is ported over in a few years. However, though I have not yet played it, the
consolidation prize is looking pretty good.

Well. I just beat it.
I loved it. Anything I could criticize about it are just trifling little inconsistencies. Some people say it's too long; I wanted more. Excellent story, memorable characters, good use of several mechanics from different games (GTA driving, cover-based shooting, etc).
There's only one thing about it that keeps digging at me, and it's mostly a late-game plot-related thing, sooo:
Phelps' affair with Elsa. WTF? Phelps is a dyed-in-the-wool straight-arrow type, and most of his personal demons come from that mentality not working in reality. The only glimpse of his home life that we're given at the very beginning of the game doesn't indicate any problems at home, and in the words of the game's own narration, he's "wound too tight" to play things fast and loose. It's weird.
You have fallen behind. If you can't multi-platform, it's off the the Gamer Gulag with you.
