Little Boy, WWII Historical Fiction by Moose42

Post by moose42 »

Little Boy, is a short piece of Historical WWII fiction.

Be warned at times the language and imagery of this work can be strong.

I will probably write another one or two chapters.

Oh and this is just a short mental break from Magic Ink.

The use of
spoiler tags
is encouraged in discussion.

Is this a hobby Moose, or a profession ? I ask because you write VERY well ( and I'm not much of a fan of any sort of fiction, I usually read nothing more than technical manuals )
I take it in the first chapter that the Little Boy nuke malfunctions ? If you want I can give you a couple of technical explanations as to why it might not have detonated as planned - if that would be useful to the story
This is a hobby looking to go pro. ;)
Both Little Boy and Fat Man fizzle. I know enough about nukes that if you don't make them right you'll get little more than a firecracker, well a big firecracker. Because of the failure of both bombs the Japanese basically tell us to take our peace agreements and meet them on the beaches. So Operation Downfall is implemented. The landings on the beach are part of the first attack, Operation Olympic.

The beach names are authentic. Whoever planned this really liked cars.

The body count is going to be staggering. It's really sad that due to pride the leaders of Japan were willing to throw away millions of lives. :'(

Writing the scene where the Marines shot the school kids was difficult.

Researching this story has really made me thankful for the Atomic bombs. 250,000 people died so that 5 to 15 million people on both sides would live. :'(

My grandfather was slated to go in on the first wave - he made it through N. Africa, Italy and France, so I guess they figured he was good at his job - driving landing craft to put tanks, etc on the beach.
**Warning this is a story about one of the most deadly conflicts ever to not happen in the history of the world. Parental discretion is advised. ;-) **

Chapter 2 of Little Boy is up.

Any feedback, suggestions, and the like are appreciated.
Aglifter, wow I'm sure he's got a few, "There I was" stories. Would it be possible for me to use a variation of him?
I'm playing with another title. Let me know what you think.

Little Boy: Hiroshima Spared

That way people should instantly know it's WWII, and alternate history. Well people with an IQ more than that of a radish.

The story is quite good as well.
