While you can argue (justifiably I think) against the "coward" stereotype of the French, I wouldn't do it by pressing the issue of the French Resistance.

In the years following 1945, the only group to claim a larger membership than "I fought in the French Resistance" bunch was the "I was never a NAZI and hated Hitler" club.

I wonder if the author has ever googled the words Vichy or Milice?

(please note I am not questioning the courage or daring of members of the French Resistance, I'm just making the point that they were a minority of the population, and a lot more people claim to have been members than were actually active)
...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

That's always the case, but as a case in point, our SF guys wear berets in honor of the FR. I got a red one!

I forget where I read it, but I recall something about how before D-Day there were 700-1000 active fighters in the French Resistance. And many many more times that many after D-Day, when it was clear who was going to win. And esp. when Allied troops were getting close to town. If I recall my reading right, the real resistance fighters were pretty bitter about all those other "resistance" fighters that came out of the woodwork once the Allied troops were 10 miles outside of town.

Well, if we're sharing cultural exchanges... (Probably NSFW)

Those stereotypes about the French Resistance, they were actually Belgians...

Of course, those gave rise to a whole series of parodies, too.
