EIGHTEEN pounds ?!? Woof....... That's a load. Let's see: 9mm semi-auto pistol in a belt holster, sling a 12/20 gauge pump over your shoulder, carry the M1A/FAL/whatever in hand - less than 18 pounds and you have more firepower. There IS that full auto thing, so I guess that trumps?? Meh.......

about as slick to wield as my pocket carry Tractor trailer.

18 lbs.

I'd much rather carry a M-249 and save the 3-4 lbs

The weight was the first thing I noticed after the resemblance. Still, you have to admit it was nice and controllable in full-auto. Not enough to make an 18lbs sub-gun/shotty combo worthwhile, especially with the crappy ergonomics. Heck, did you see him trying to acquire on a timed course of fire? Either he's not much of a shooter, or all that weight was killing him. Especially when he went to reload.

Still, I wouldn't turn one down if it was offered to me.

The weight was one of the things which made the Thompson so controllable (plus the muzzle brake).
