Another flick that I will never be viewing

The one film that never should be made:
The director of "Captain America: The First Avenger," the 2011 summer blockbuster that will coincide with the character's 70th anniversary, says the screen version of the hero will be true to his roots -- up to a certain point.
"We're sort of putting a slightly different spin on Steve Rogers," said Joe Johnston, whose past directing credits include "Jurassic Park III" and "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids." He's a guy that wants to serve his country, but he's not a flag-waver. We're reinterpreting, sort of, what the comic book version of Steve Rogers was."
...
Does that make him an odd fit to play the earnest and somewhat square superhero with the Betsy Ross fashion sensibility? Johnston answered that in his film -- which is set in World War II -- the character will fight the enemies of America but he won't be a stiff, slogan-spouting guy.
"He wants to serve his country, but he's not this sort of jingoistic American flag-waver," Johnston said. "He's just a good person. We make a point of that in the script: Don't change who you are once you go from Steve Rogers to this super-soldier; you have to stay who you are inside, that's really what's important more than your strength and everything. It'll be interesting and fun to put a different spin on the character and one that the fans are really going to appreciate."
No.

Perhaps you could reinterpret the costume, but reinterpreting the character in any way other than what the character was at his comic book origin -- who was basically Bill Whittle with less muscle mass -- is to destroy the character of Steve Rogers/ Captain America utterly.

Period.

Which, of course, is the liberal's intention. As I knew that it would be if there was ever a movie ever to be made about the good Captain.

God-damned liberal idiots. "Reinterpret", my ass. Screw you, Marvel.

And this is why, until very recently, Marvel produced it's own movies. Now they're owned by Disney?

Of course not. The idea of someone who would want to fight for his country despite being unable to do so... it's ridiculous!

Here, I'll help them write their script:

Steve Rogers, born to a conservative Nazi hating father, who turns out to be an abusive alcoholic. After his father beats Steve, and kills his mother, he commits suicide. Steve changes his name to Stevyn, moves into a tidy apartment in New York. He meets a soldier about to deploy named Snuffy, and they fall madly in love. Snuffy deploys and is killed. In a fit of rage, Stevyn tries to enlist, but he is kidnapped by the evil military industrial complex and is turned into a super-soldier against his will. He begrudgingly fights the Germans, never using a gun because they're so scawwy. He accidentally kills a member of the Hitler Youth who was trying to shoot a POW. He repents and instead tries to befriend the enemy. Stevyn meets a Nazi named Gunter, and they share a box of Bavarian chocolate. They then romp through the Alps and dedicate their lives to saving the environment. Roll the credits. After the credits, the entire Justice League reminds everyone that it's patriotic to pay their taxes.

This blows. At this rate, I'd rather watch Captain Planet than some abomination of the great Cap.

I am so tired of remakes made by people who don't even read the comics. :x What is wrong with making a movie that keeps the integrity of the characters as they were created? Can't Hollywood create something new instead of combing through old comics, TV shows and movies, trying to "update them"? It never works.

You are right. This is another movie I will not be seeing.

I am hoping that The Expendables (August 13th) will be a good antidote.

How the hell can you take Captain America and NOT make him "some sort of flag-waver"? He WEARS the damn thing as a costume!

On a slightly related note:

Shoulda know.

Pussification of the west has killed off Capt. America.

Why don't they just put the hammer and sickle on his uniform and be done with it.

Or perhaps a big golden crescent across his chest

or perhaps just make it out of pink velor with silver accessories.
