I always thought Kate Mulgrew was cast so people wouldn't feel bad rooting for the aliens in each episode, or for things like black holes.

After I saw Gravity, I was rooting for the orbital debris, and praying for an Open Water ending. I have never been so let down by a Hollywood ending at the movies before.
