...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

Currentyl re-reading Griffin's Black Ops. Finished up last week re-reading Flynn's Term Limiits which I think is somewhat timely. At least the title is. ;)

Oh, one thing to mention about "The Possessed", I know that Dostoyevsky isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it is interesting in several ways (besides just being well written like all of his novels). It was written after Dostoyevsky had turned away from socialism and recommited to Christianity. He spent a bunch of years wrapped up in the socialist circles of the time, and the antogonists of the book are socialists.

The most interesting part to me is that the characters and their conversations are exactly like academic socialists you run into today. You can hear the same things being said by the same types of people 130 years later, and the people saying it now still think they are an avant guard of some sort. It is enlighting and at the same time rather pitiful.

Ya got me there, Vonz. The Amazon reviews are pretty good; I'll have to hit up the liberry later (a review wouldn't be amiss ;) ). I've read Christopher Duffy's Frederick the Great: A Military Life, which focuses on his military career, and Robert Asprey's Frederick the Great: The Magnificent Enigma, which is more comprehensive.

I've had the great privilege of meeting Professor Duffy, and of attending talks he gave in South Bend on the battle of Culloden and on the Imperial Austrian army; he is the go-to guy for 18th Century military history and the Seven Years' War in particular.

(Also, apropos of nothing much, I have an LP with a recording of one of Frederick's flute concertos; I would say he was a solid, competent composer.)

Just received notification that Contact with Chaos and Overthrowing Heaven are waiting at my library for me to pick up. Eye of the Storm is also inbound, via interlibrary loan and should be there for pickup in a day or two.

Now I just need to find some time....

We visited my parents over the Independence Day weekend. When we left, he gave me his seven volume hardcover set of Prince Valiant books (very tattered; we read them to death as kids), plus the 4 volumes he had of the Oxford "A History of Technology". Also two books on canine intelligence and psychology (since we're looking for a new dog or two to rebuild our Pack).

Its killing me having them all sit there, mocking me; since I got back work is hammering so hard I don't have time to read them! This online time is my first break and that's just waiting for some jobs to run before getting back to work :(

I thought there were only six SEAL teams, which is why a lot of novels use a "Team 7" to depict fictional SEALs. :? Was that true, or did it change?
