Aesop, this is not a zombie thread. It has simply been maturing quietly, like fine wine in the cellar. Dust off the cobwebs, pop the cork, and it's great!
And when the machine gets tired of trying to shoehorn a 29-year-old voluntary bimbette into some sort of relevance to 14-year-olds, the mechanical bull is going to throw her, and the landing won't be pretty. The only cards she has left to play in the career game are a greatest hits album, a Christmas album, the bootleg sex tape, posing naked for some skin rag, meltdown, rehab, and informercials, if she's lucky. Those are pretty bleak prospects. Ask Ke$ha et al what it's like to wake up every day as "so 15 minutes ago".

Katy is no Madonna or GaGa. She's got something else there... Some connection with a people of a certain age that I can't articulate. For all her costumes and such she has this 'underneath it all she's just like us' vibe that I see young women feeling. She's not just an extreme entertainer. She's one of them (if they had the talent and opportunity they'd do it just like her).
My bet longterm is she'll follow more of a Linda Ronstadt track. If Nelson Riddle was still alive she'd be doing an American Songbook album in 10 years time.

Not sure if she can't quite sing, or if she isn't permitted to (A cousin is a professional singer with perfect pitch - the "insiders" kept making her sing songs that anyone "can sing," until she got frustrated and is trying to do her own thing.)
She's certainly not more than ordinarily attractive - perhaps that helps her market appeal.
