I've been reading this author's works for some time and he researches the Hell out of the background.

C.C. Humphries and has a website - http://www.cchumphreys.com/Site_2/Welcome.html

His books:
Jack Absolute - As captioned: The 007 of 1777 must flee to Canada but with trysts and duels
The Blooding of Jack Absolute - continues
Absolute Honour - Rev War involvement
The French Executioner - 1536, Henry VIII to behead his wife, Anne Boleyn
Blood Ties - The story continues
The Hunt of the Unicorn - Young Adult good read which I've not read
Vlad: The Last Confession - I just picked it up yesterday - The real Dracula
A Place Called Armageddon_ Constantinople 1453 - I just picked it up yesterday and started reading it last night--first 130 pages are great.

Along the same line Bernard Cornwell years ago )1987) came out with a book called "Redcoat" that was a very good Rev War story about the Valley Forge winter from the British view...He has finally written another book in that time period called "The Fort" (which I just ordered) about the Penobscot Expedition of 1779.

"Sharpshooting for Sport and War" by W. W. Greener -- great shooting book

Oh man, I had 1st editions of both of those ( not in great condition mind ).
I had way too many books to bring to Spain with me, so they were auctioned off with most of the rest of my book collection as part of a drive to send care parcels to our troops in Afghanistan.
Bloody squaddies, hope they enjoyed their Pot Noodles bought with my lovely books :D

I think I'm going to need to re-read The Martian Chronicles now.

I'm about halfway through Red Mars, and will follow with Green Mars and Blue Mars. Pretty entertaining so far. Terraforming/exploring/colonizing Mars is one of my interests.

Reading The Land Of Painted Caves by Jean Auel. It's the latest in the series that started with Clan Of The Cave-Bear. Ayla and Jondalar have reached the land of the Zelandonii in what will become central France.

Too bad Daryl Hannah is too old to make sequels to the movie,...

I just bought those three books and just started on Red Mars.

Reading Strong At The Break by Jon Land, though I don't know why. Think I have the need to finish anything I pick up. It's about a 5th generation (female) Texas Ranger. She is using a Sig in 9 mm when a little research shows that Texas DPS and the Rangers are issued Sig .357 Sigs, and Rangers can pick up .45 ACP. The plot has militias as the bad guys, involved with a military cabal, all with a plan to unseat Obama. They also talk about the "evil" Karl Rove, Haliburton, Bremer as a screwup in Iraq, and a Tea Party that's useless. Get the feeling the guy's a die-hard liberal leftie (though I repeat myself there)? Last book of his I read.

Found an interview with him online. Here's part of it
(Jon Land laughs) Okay, you caught me. I’m showing my politics here. Arno is an encapsulation of the right-wing wackos who I detest beyond measure. People who define themselves by stoking fear and hatred in this country. The Sarah Palin crowd, I guess you might say, or the Tea Party taken to an extreme . . . or maybe not such an extreme.

Am about 2/3 through "Guns, germs and steel" by Jared Diamond.. Interesting, although, like much academic writing, once you have understood the hypothesis and the major evidence adduced in support of it, the pages and pages of minor evidence, corroboration and speculation is rather repetitive. No doubt the author is very learned, but he could have written a more interesting book half the length. I won't complain, since I picked up the Kindle edition from Amazon on special offer either for US$0.99 or for free (I forget).

Before that, I had just finished "The time traveller's wife" by Audrey Niffenegger also on my Kindle. Interesting, and quite compelling. I couldn't decide how to categorise it - fantasy, romance, guy's book or girl's book. I enjoyed it.

This is a nice thing about the Kindle - I find I am reading books that I would probably never have chosen on paper, from authors that i never heard of before.

Just had a peek at the TBR pile - I can see "Lion in the White House", a biography of Teddy Roosevelt. I'm about twenty pages in. Nothing of great interest so far. Under that is the Norma reloading manual, and the Man-Eaters of Tsavo. Hmm, seems to be a "lion" theme running at the moment. Thanks to CC, who posted over the books!

Goodness. I hope he didn't get any of your money for that book...

Sadly, he did. But it's the ONLY money he's getting. And I'm using the book for firestarter (as much as I hate doing that) instead of passing it on.
