I just finished A Plague Upon Humanity. Some of the things that the Japanese did are kind of messed up.
Reading a Star Trek Department of Temporal Investigations book.

Agreed! What's the use of living somewhere and not knowing anything about it?308Mike wrote:Agreed! It's one of the reasons I like history so much, and there are LOTS of places with interesting history here in the USA!First Shirt wrote:It's nice to learn something new about the area where you've lived most of your life.
I finished "With the Old Breed" by Eugene Sledge, "My Helmet for my Pillow" by Richard Leckie,
and am currently in the middle of Stephen Ambrose's WW2 biography of Eisenhower.
And in the warmup ring, I have a picture book on the Pacific Coast Highway and IIRC a book on Santa Monica Bay, which upon cursory examination doesn't appear to include anything south of Marina del Rey.

The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

Last of the Breed, by Louis L'Amour. It's a good yarn, but not as wildly riveting as I'd been led to believe.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

Considering the fate of various relatives, that is a comfort.308Mike wrote:From what I've seen and read, people who like and enjoy reading are far less likely to suffer from dementia than those who prefer to be entertained.
And yes, watching the people with dementia try to think is like waiting for a lightswitch to go on for a moment or two, or as I referred to it watching my father, kind of like the battle in the cloud in Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan. Sometimes the static would subside enough to see something.

I'm reading FM-100-2-1 The Soviet Army, Operations and Tactics
Also Helter Skelter ( Manson Family ), but I'm getting very bored with that, don't think I'll finish it.

Finished reading Thunder Run by David Zucchino. About the 3rd Infantry Division's attack on Baghdad. Rereading Blackhawk Down by Mark Bowden. Wasn't paying a lot of attention the first time I read it but I'm slowing down this time and, boy, what a clusterf*** that operation was.

POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON
A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.
I remain pessimistic given the way BATF and the anti gun crowd have become tape worms in the guts of the Republic. - toad

I just finished the classic WW1 trench warfare book "Sniper Jackson" by Frederick Sleath of a Scot battalion's sniper squad...Damn interesting read the second time--about 10 years ago--and even more interesting this time...It's available from the Internet Archive for free in a PDF and other file types.

They also have:
"Sniping in France" by Major H. Hesketh-Prichard - The bible from whence it all started
http://archive.org/stream/cu31924027946 ... 0/mode/2up
"The Emma Gees" by Capt. Herbert W. McBride although his "A Rifleman Went To War" is the better book and where they publishers pulled this book from.

"Sharpshooting for Sport and War" by W. W. Greener -- great shooting book

There is a certain type of mentality that thinks if you make certain inanimate objects illegal their criminal misuse will disappear!
Damn the TSA and Down with the BATF(u)E!
