OK, Then, What Are Your Favorite 60's Cars?

I learned to drive a stick in a '69 Charger. It had the 383 with a four barrel. I think my dad got a good deal on it, as he was really not the muscle car type. I was more interested in airplanes and motorcycles, so I didn't mind that one of my brothers got to keep it instead of me. It may have had a higher top speed than my Kawasaki H-2, and had respectable acceleration as well.

'66 Ford Galaxie XL500 Hardtop...preferably a 7 Litre
'64 Plymouth Sport Fury...again, a hardtop
'63'/'64 Buick Riviera
'68 AMC AMX

And of course the always mentioned Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs, Roadrunners, Chargers, Chevelles, 442s, GTOs and the other myriad muscle cars that most of us grew up with.

There were no "7-litre" Ford Galaxies. Them huge Ford V8s of the '60s Galaxies and Mercurys were properly termed 429-cubic-American-inches, dammit, or 427 cubic non-metric inches if you had the glorious Cobra Jet cross-bolted, side-oiler high-performance V8. There wasn't one dang metric thing on'em, not even the bolt heads, thankyouverymuch.

One of the wilder cars at the local car show was Gal 500 with a 427, with (get this) propane injection and glow plugs in the tailpipes. When they turned it on, it would throw flames out the exhaust.

Dang nice car it was, too. Superbly comfortable, ridiculous power and torque, the two biggest car doors I've ever seen (ours was the coupe), a trunk big enough to live in. And it got 14 mpg on the highway, which isn't bad for a land-yacht the size of the Queen Mary. Wish I had it back.

Ford replaced the FE block cars with 385 block engines in '71...and trucks in about '76. I had a '66 Galaxie XL 500 as my first car. It was a 289/automatic car and honestly the nicest driving car I've ever owned. I've been looking for a 7 Litre for the last 15 years or so...without any luck.
