Larry talked about a meeting he had in hollyweird about MHI, his facial expressions at some actors mentioned lead to some gentle kidding by one of the exec's at the meeting.
My favorite story of his ended with "...and so he went out the back door in his bathrobe, flipped the AK to 'Afrikaner', and started hosing the baboons off his tennis court." - Tam

Why? 'cause Owen was going to be Brad "arm"Pitt (and COMPLETELY undersized for the role) and Julie was going to Angelina Jolie, Sam Elliott might make a good Earl, and they might try and raise Patrick Swayze from the dead to play one of the roles - but he could CERTAINLY do MUCH better than Keneau Reeves in ANY role, and trying to place Val Kilmer in ANY role would wreck the movie entirely (unless he got killed right away).

Actually, I could see either De Niro or Pacino in the role of Earl - they give a good box office draw, they're both strong stable actors who've been around the block a few times, and they know how to play a part like Earl in the books.

Steve Austin would make a MUCH better Owen than many of the other "pretty boys" out there today - he's VERY large, can play the part well, and carry off the large doofus part easily ("stand there and let the monsters beat on him until they get tired") with his large size and I'm sure he can accentuate his hillbilly drawl to make it sound like he's just some dumb hick (even though he's an accountant who killed his werewolf supervisor).

DAMN, I'd have a lot of fun doing the casting for those roles even though it'd be a LOT of work, but I'd try to get the movie the right feel and vibe by using certain actors and their presentation (I was kidding about Angelina Jolie as the Julie's character).

Other ideas? I KNOW it's be easy for me to spend HOURS pouring over these actor's files trying to decide who'd I'd want for certain roles, but if you SCREW IT UP, YOU CAN KISS THE FRANCHISE GOODBYE!!

And there's SO MUCH potential there too!!

Val Kilmer could play Grant.

One actor that that I thought would be good for Owen would be Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson. He is big enough and would fit the mixed race criteria for Pitt plus he is good in both action and even comedic roles. The one problem is that he is not nearly ugly enough, but that is why there are makeup artists.
There are many older actors who could play Raymond Shackleford the III, Robert Duval and John Voight pop into pop into my head. Trip would also be pretty easy to cast with a known actor of some sort. On the balance though it would be best to have most of the cast be made up of relatively unknown actors. I am having trouble thinking of any well known actor that would give a good acounting of Julie, Earl or Milo.

Pacino could be good, but I am afraid that De Niro is too Italian and that both are a hair too old.
Val Kilmer could play Grant.
Too old, plus he has gotten pretty fat as of late. Grant would be pretty easy to cast, there are a plethora of smarmy, young, pretty boy actors to choose from

Owen would be very difficult to cast, I feel. It would almost have to be a no-name guy. I would love to see Jason Statham cast as Harbinger, The Rock as Franks, and Michelle Rodriguez as Julie.

The Rock would work as Agent Franks as well. Both Owen and Franks are described as being big, dark and ugly.

Nathan Jones might make either a good Franks or Owen, as would Steve Austin. Christopher Walken might make a good Myers.

Yeah, I was thinking more of the Rock for Franks.

Came late to this rodeo, just bought both paperbacks and reread MHI (I read Chris's copy in two days while in Scottsdale) then read Vendetta. They are great, can't wait for more.
