I'm still waiting for someone to actually do Starship Troopers, since that story is as yet unfilmed to this day.randy wrote:Or how about re-doing Starship Troopers, this time with actual Mobile Infantry instead of Aliens Marines?
First, set Paul Verhoeven's feet in concrete and talk him for a walk off the Santa Monica Pier. (Or, being that he's 75, just knot his shoelaces together and hide his walker.)
Second, shoot what Heinlein actually brilliantly wrote in the book, rather than bootlegging the title and a few scraps, then inserting generic anti-military, antiwar, anti-American screed, the polar opposite of where Robert H. was coming from.
Third, leave Denise Richards at home with Charlie's kids, and find someone who can sell smart-enough-to-fly-a-spaceship.
Fourth, Dale Dye as Mr. DuBois, Lee Ermey as Fleet Sgt. Ho, and Adam Baldwin as Sgt. Zim.
And being a USNA ('29) grad, even though Heinlein called his grunts Mobile Infantry, simply reading about the training, nobody would ever mistake it for not-the-Marines. However, the Keystone Klown tactics of the Space Marines of Aliens iteration should probably stay home, although they got more right with the characters than wrong in that one, and they had to kill most of them off to leave room for Sigourney Weaver.
