There are family tartans, regional tartans, and some professional tartans.

My advice is to go over to USAKilts.com. I just ordered a semi-traditional (PV, not wool), and it's a good starting point. And a good selection of tartans...with the ones anyone can wear without a problem clearly marked.

"Embracing tribalism" is laying it on a bit thick.

I've worn halloween costumes and mardi gras beads a time or two, but that doesn't equate to "embracing Roman catholicism".

Call me when we start setting up federal agencies to ensure proper quotas of Celtic-ancestry/surnamed representatives, or demanded our own entrrely Gaelic-speaking state in the union, and then I'll sign on to that diagnosis.

If we could get D.C. to build a modern Hadrian's Wall around the District, such that we were all kept out, and they were all kept inside the Beltway Of Civilization, we'd really be onto something.

I'm really not sure what else to call announcing your clan affiliation by publicly wearing it's colors. Knowing just a WEE little bit of history, this really isn't that far removed from wearing gang tats or colors- actually if the person really meant it, it's worse because a gang isn't necessarily an organization linked by blood so at least a gang can avoid listing amoral familism among its flaws.

I should hope not. lol You must have been in a hurry... you know these aren't Catholic, right? Now if you were to start snacking on Communion wafers....

Lame fallacy. You can't seem to tell the difference between a forest and a tree.

Just because you're a dilattante playing with symbols that you don't really grasp the full meaning of, doesn't mean the symbols don't *have* meaning. The Gaelic countries were culturally and developmentally stunted in really unfortunate ways, basing their society on tribes long after all their neighbors grew out of the habit... and this was not good for the Gaels. Still isn't.

Embracing the symbolism of a more backward way of life as a way of 'honoring your heritage'.... Yeah.

Not going to get much argument there.

I would say that the guy who has posted on multiple occasions about what a crappy family life he came from, should maybe refrain from commenting on the harmless ways which other members choose to express pride in their family history.

That will NEVER happen during the CURRENT administration unless your ancestors hail from Africa, and even MORE IMPORTANTLY, you are a REGISTERED DHIMMICRAPTIC voter and have been so for many election cycles. If you can prove all that, THEN you MIGHT get your preferred Federal Agency established (as much as I know you'd HATE to see another one, but THIS ONE would be supporting YOUR bloodline, kinda' like ODumbo and his MUTT line).

What's amazing is that this ASSHOLE hasn't been IMPEACHED YET. If he was a Retardican, they would have impeached him (along with all the corresponding appropriate media frenzy/attention to remove him from office) - but that simply is NOT going to happen with Hopey-Dopey the Unicorn Rider!!!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!

It's just like how they REFUSE to designate the Fort Hood shootings a TERRORIST EVENT - even though it CLEARLY WAS. But the current administration CLEARLY DOES NOT want to grant those benefits to the victims of that TERRORIST ATTACK because it would raise too many issues as well as costing the federal government more money for such an event (which they CLEARLY could have PREVENTED).

There are SO MANY issues which the current President SHOULD/COULD be IMPEACHED are simply unbelievable!! Had George W Bush committed just a FEW of all these incidents, he would have been tossed out of office on his ear!!

Yet, due to WHILE, LIBERAL, GUILT - he gets a ride on ALMOST EVERY SINGLE ITEM while the compliant press simply looks the other way.

And they wonder why the PEOPLE no longer trust either; the media AND/OR the government!!! They're ALL a bunch of LIARS!!
POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON

A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.

I remain pessimistic given the way BATF and the anti gun crowd have become tape worms in the guts of the Republic. - toad

Jesus, have we really turned this into an argument? OK, let's argue this. If I have Plaids or Tartans on both sides, does Maternal or Paternal win out? If it depends, what are the circumstances for each?
There must be an end to this intimidation by those who come to this great country, but reject its culture.

Hee hee. Maybe I should start my own sept. I wonder what our colors should be.....

You can honor the past without embracing the flaws. Well maybe in 400 years people will find some things we do that indicate serious organizational issues with our society, to be harmless quaint portions of our past that are safe to embrace without their full weight of meaning (and baggage).

I'm sure some fellow who thinks too much will be on message boards yelling at people that Lenin t-shirts and Commissar caps are NOT quaint ethnic costume that honors family heritage. Etc, etc.

You know I never fully connected the Flight of the Earls and the Plantation of Ulster, understanding them as being of a piece in several different ways, until just a little while ago.
