Get paid for eight hours of work and worked seven this time.

? Why the hell wouldn't the payroll system account for the time change?
There's no reason for that.

It's the overtime pay and the letting half of the shift of workers off 1 hour "early". So Say you have 2 12 hours shifts, When DST comes you have to pay one part of the shift 12 hours for 11 hours of practical work, they work for 11 hours but you have to pay them 12. Then when DST ends, you have to pay the other people 13 hours, with 1 hour of 1.5x or 2x overtime. Management loses 2 hours of payables on wages when DST begins and ends.Aglifter wrote:? No, they worked 11 hours, and are paid for 11 hours. Its just a matter of recognizing that there was an, artificial, time shift.
I fail to see why anyone would have a payroll system which is unable to account for such a shift. If nothing else, simply index it to GMT.

Our system acknowledges they worked and are payed for 12 hours of work when it's only 11 real hours. It's just that the administrators would rather have it work out that way rather than have employees fight over the issue every year this rolls around.Aglifter wrote:No, they worked 11 hours, and are paid for 11 hours. You could legally only pay them for 11 hours of work but it then just causes issues between the employees and management when it comes around every year.

Yep. At my job, they have to pay an hour of overtime if you're there for nine hours.bubblewhip wrote: Our system acknowledges they worked and are payed for 12 hours of work when it's only 11 real hours. For the spring ahead, I think it's just easier to pay people for eight hours since the "tour" goes from midnight to eight and that's what's reflected in the timekeeping.
The avalanche has already started. It is too late for the pebbles to vote.

Time sheet issues, studies show increase automotive accidents near change, Changing time causes people to be late or more tired, and the fact that lighting is no longer one of our main power draws. Florescent lighting systems draw so little power that we're getting diminishing to no returns on changing the time of day. All reasons DST time switch sucks.

Haven't been somewhere that does that nonsense since 2007. Zero issues for me. Still baffles me that a simple "Accounting for all other variables, there is a non-zero spike in the vehicular accident rate following DST state-change" study hasn't been done. It's not like everyone in government hasn't experienced jetlag. Not a bad argument against it: Ever had Jetlag? How about we give 95% of the country jetlag, all at once, twice a year? Yeah, that sounds great...

Jet lag, exactly. One might think a one hour shift wouldn't hit that hard, but it always screws with me a lot. I didn't sleep worth a damn last night, and had to get up at 4 am for work. On the other hand, as I'm sometimes prone to do, I lay in bed and thought about a task at work (sometimes I design telescopes in my head when I can't get to sleep). Last Friday I'd thought up a nifty (if somewhat complicated) gizmo to help a product run better, then realized last night that it wouldn't work. I thought about it some more, and had what seemed an elegant, simple idea to accomplish the task. I liked it so much I called my work number at 1:30 am and left a message to myself so I wouldn't forget it. I tried it this morning and it worked!
