You guys are way over thinking this, simply lift the trunk hatch then bolt half a dozen two by tens to the frame through the trunk floor, and bolt the hitch to the two bys the two bys clear the lower lid and your all set , for distance hauling take a sawsall to the lower lid. So you can duct tape it closed .

It's chip seal. The Wal-Mart is about 15 years old, but the parking lot has been there for over 40.
