Is Melvin who I think he is?

And I'm not a fan of the cover, after how technically correct the first one looked.
I asked Larry about this when he did a signing in Phoenix last month and yes Melvin the troll is based on exactly who you think he is based on.
Ah, I see.

I pre-ordered and read it right away when it arrived. It's a lot of fun, but much more campy than the first book. I like some of the revelations but others were a little over the top for my taste. It's a good read and I recommend it (after you read the first book in the series).

MHV is awesome. It's supposed to be a bit campy that's what makes it fun.

You'll never look at the MHI logo the same way ever again.

Which also, according to himself's blog, just got bought by Baen. The confirmation of the redshirting is in the comments on that linked blog post.

I agree. I liked it better than the first one, but if I hadn't read the first one, I might feel differently. I'm certainly looking forward to the next one!! Just like movies and computer games, if I like something, I tend to review it again 'cause I ALWAYS pick up something I missed the first time through.

I thought the editor did a great job regarding spelling, misplaced words, bad punctuation, etc., etc. The only glaring error I ran across was a repeated sentence in the same paragraph, which was separated only by another sentence or two, otherwise a great editing job (although I'm sure I'm not the only one who wondered about the helicopters trying to maneuver under the branches of a tree only 20 stories in height - hell, we HAVE trees that size ALREADY! I wonder if someone left off at least one zero since three helos were flying under it at one time). I found a few more errors, but they weren't enough to ruin the story by any means.

Something like this, I could EASILY see becoming another franchise like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. While I was reading, I was visualizing how Hollyweird would go about filming such sequences and for the most part, the majority wouldn't be too damn hard, and could make for some great large-screen entertainment.

There were some pretty obvious actors for most of the characters in my mind as I read the book, except it'd be tough to find someone to play Owen who's actually ugly, as opposed to Hollywood-ugly.

But man, it would be a fun movie (if they did it right). Just Imagine the smiley monster patch as the cinema poster :D
