*sigh*
I *know* I should keep my mouth shut about this, and I'll probably regret this...

That town is famous for art that goes well below this, and enters the territory of "Nuts". The "art museum" referenced is loathed by the whole town with the exception of the "cultural artsy elite". It's a ugly black square block building that the people have given the popular name "Kaba". They built it right in the beautiful city park, in plain view from the old historic castle, and it's so ugly it totally dominates the scene. (You see the side of it, the whole building is a cube looking like that) The same people that thought the building was a good idea probably thought this carrot thing was a great idea.

And I haven't even started on all the other stupid stuff the artsy cultural folks has done to stink up the town.

To give you some perspective, Kalmar is one of the oldest cities in the country. The castle was first built in the 1100s, and the current version of it is from the 1500s. The center of the city is still paved with the stones from that time, and is inside a huge wall and mote to protect the city from attack. The closest thing I can think of in the US would be Alexandria, Virginia.
And this is the place they choose to place all this kind of ugly "artsy" things in. That "art museum" is a disgrace to any town, and they picked a horrible place to put it. The carrot thing was not going much further down that road. I'd guess 90% of the people in town would have cheered if they were real bombs. (as long as noone got hurt blowing it up ofcourse)

You said it, I didn't.

It's most likely true though, and I probably would have said it if I'd had the guts to.

I think it's GREAT!!! Considering how "provocative" the "art" is, I think they can't see the artistic (feeling and emotional value) such a piece of ART has to offer the public.

It just shows how incredibly narrow-minded and bullshit focused the current state of the art critics in today's world. To me, that's GREAT 'performance art', if only it was allowed to perform to execution.

I'm SURE at least one or two of the bureaucrats involved in this thing laughed once apprised of what was going on - either that, or their panties got all twisted in a nitfit about how they aren't taking the 'arts' seriously.

Huh. I had a travel alarm clock just like the one they're using for a "timer" in those photos.

The most blatent example of this was a huge performance art piece done by a local Vienna artist known by as "Adolf". He started as a painter but switched to performance art some time in the 1920's. The piece involved huge parades, millions of actors portraying armies and fanatical henchmen and attempts to turn most of the cities in Europe into huge, post modern flaming sculptures through "bomber sculpting".

Unfortunately the Bourgeoisie did not "get" it and the whole thing ended in tragedy.
