Composer James Horner passes away

Post by scipioafricanus »

I saw today that James Horner passed away in a plane crash today. http://io9.com/rip-james-horner-compose ... 1713281980
I love a great deal of orchestral soundtracks/scores, and he was among one of my favorite composers. His scores to Glory, The Rocketeer, and Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan are some of my personal favorites. These were essential paper writing scores during my time in college, and I am convinced that they allowed more words to flow (and made more sense). And I can’t forget the mention the score to Aliens (the only good Alien movie).

I consider orchestral soundtracks have become the new Classical music in this day and age. This is definitely a loss in the music department, and he will be missed. Having just picked up this score to a classic 80’s movie, I will leave with this prime piece of pure motivation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_24YWy71RXo

I admit that I didn't know his name, but I've listened to his scores. Good stuff.

Well, technically he did, it's just that it was apparently slightly worse than an F-4 with no engines. 0:0 is still a glide ratio
...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

My favorite film composer. Widely regarded as #2, right after John Williams. Yet another guy who met an untimely end dicking around in his own plane.

I'd rate him #3, but it's a terrible loss.

John Williams is my #1 overall. Jerry Goldsmith comes in at #2. Horner at #3.
