Duke fans Rejoice

The Alamo might be restored with the original version being released: http://www.hollywood-elsewhere.com/2014 ... n-pallies/

A bit better commentary from John Nolte about it (this is where I found it originally): http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Hollywood/ ... june-27-14
MGM's behavior has thus far been appalling. Everyone knows the studio (if you can still call it that) is broke and has been for decades. But out of misguided pride or plain old bureaucratic stupidity, MGM won't even allow someone else to donate the $1.3 million required for the restoration. And there appears to be a willing party.
Seems MGM has been jerking around a lot of people regarding the film. As one who has the original version on a cherished VHS and a standard DVD version, I am rather hopeful. Think I might just listen to the whole score again.

It is unimaginable that any studio, when offered the chance to pull a classic out of the vaults and have the restoration paid for, wouldn't jump at the chance.
The re-issue alone is good for a quick $5-10M on opening release day.

But strictly speaking, The Alamo was a United Artists film, owned by them, they're owned by MGM Studios Inc., which is owned by a holding company (while they reorganize from bankruptcy) which includes Sony and Comcast.

That's why this isn't getting done: no one is really in charge, they're just caretakers.

It's also played havoc with James bond sequels, though that's apparently been worked out.
