Religions who serve things up cafeteria style are easy to find, but nowhere near all of anything, and they tend to self-correct when they wither and die off.
You can't fool all of the people all of the time.
But if you find a perfect person, or perfect anything else, give a holler.
If perfection is anyone's standard for anything in this life, and lack of it a grounds for rejecting everything else, they're destined to starve to death, cold, lonely, and naked.
If not, then adopting it as an excuse in regard to only one particular sphere is just a pose, usually to shirk responsibility in regard to personal behavior.
Not coincidentally, such response is noted in history pretty much non-stop since about Week Two of recorded human existence.

As I said in my first post there, the idiots posting comments are hypocrites. They also twist the Bible in knots, use "evidence" that's nothing more than the videos made by networks for ratings, and refuse to listen to any other opinion other than theirs. Gee, WWJD with them.skb12172 wrote:Rod, I've jumped in to help you a bit. It seems the Jeebus Socialists are well organized and deployed on this one. Meh, hot air. If any of them have the stones to take direct action, I don't think this demographic will result in the outcome they would hope.

Wonder what they think of the time Jesus braided himself a whip and kicked the shit out of a bunch of hucksters who were ripping off folks worshipping at the temple?

Large swaths of my own church (Anglican/Episcopalian) have gone off the Reservation, to the point where the Bishop of Newark some years ago published a series of "theses" denying certain core doctrines of the Christian church (such as the existence of God,the Divinity of Jesus, the Resurection, you know, little things like that). There's a large part of the Episcopal church that sees itself not in the business of saving souls, but of doing good works (especially in a Social Justice kind of way). As a result the church is shrinking, people realize that if all the church demands is that they do good works, they can join the Lions club, have better parties, and sleep late on Sunday. OTOH, parishes like mine (which is much more traditional Anglo-Catholic), as well as like the church my wife goes to (Assemblies of God, modern worship, evangelical doctrine) are growing like weeds.
At a time when Episcopal churches in my area are closing because they don't have enough people to pay the bills, mine has four well-attended services each weekend and stays financially afloat despite being in a poor neighborhood (as in several parishioners rely on our food pantry for their last couple meals each month).

Some of the more conservative Anglican/Episcopalian churches in the USA have joined with dioceses in Africa, South America, or Asia.

Henry VIII left the reservation long before the Bishop of Newark.MarkD wrote:Large swaths of my own church (Anglican/Episcopalian) have gone off the Reservation, to the point where the Bishop of Newark some years ago ...

Our Bishop comes up from the Dominican Republic. We're still part of the Diocese of Newark, but we've asked for, and received, alternate Episcopal oversight. It's unlikely we could leave the ECUSA and keep our church building, and we can't afford a new one.Termite wrote:Some of the more conservative Anglican/Episcopalian churches in the USA have joined with dioceses in Africa, South America, or Asia.

/heh/ A lot of the African refugees we have in our non-denom community church membership are(were) Anglicans. Took most of them no more than couple weeks in San Diego to figure out they needed to find something other than the local Episcopalian option and they attached to us. (Not to me) Surprisingly our doctrinal statement syncs up pretty well with what they believed from their typcially orthodox background..
Our church government is the big difference and coming from tribal/village churches they are good with our "plurality of elder" led style. Well, except for a couple guys who made a good living in refugee camps as "pastors" and moved on when they figured out there was no rice bowl for them to tap at our place (all volunteers in every capacity, only paid person is the custodian, and some occasional 1099's to others for work/services rendered).
