Star Wars was "Hero of a Thousand Faces", something like "The Epic of Gilgamesh" or all those Heinlein juveniles, but also with ray guns and aliens instead of gods and goddesses or RAH writing himself into various characters.
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:

The two trains of thought I've seen speculating on the nature of the second star ship is that it's a) from the future, or b) from Section 31, which I gather is the Federation's black ops group.
