http://www.history.com/shows/hatfields- ... and-mccoysIt’s the true American story of a legendary family feud—one that spanned decades and nearly launched a war between Kentucky and West Virginia. Hatfields & McCoys, a three-part miniseries, showcases an all-star cast led by Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton. It chronicles a clash of clans that inspired passion, vengeance, courage, sacrifice, crimes and accusations, while forever transforming the two families and the region they lived in.
The Hatfield-McCoy saga begins with Devil Anse Hatfield (Costner) and Randall McCoy (Paxton). Close friends and comrades until near the end of the Civil War, they return to their neighboring homes—Hatfield in West Virginia, McCoy just across the Tug River border in Kentucky—to increasing tensions, misunderstandings and resentments that soon explode into all-out warfare between their families. As hostilities grow, friends, neighbors and outside forces join the fight, bringing the two states to the brink of another civil war.

Hatfields & McCoys
Is anybody going to watch the miniseries on History channel? The ads look good. Quite a cast too, including Kevin Costner, Bill Paxton and Powers Boothe:

Funny story. Grades 1-6 for me had a Hatfield and a McCoy in the same class.

What really got the feud going, was the theft of a pig.Yogimus wrote:....they're just animals, man!

Well, supposedly what really started it was Jim Vance, Hatfield uncle, killing Harmon McCoy for serving with the Union army, right after the end of the Civil War. Years later, the stolen pig relit the flames, so to speak.
It is an excellent show, IMO. All three episodes are available on History's website:

History also intends to rerun the show Saturday. I highly recommend it. Many very good performances. Tom Berenger plays Jim Vance, he could've passed me on the street and I would not have recognized him. I compared the show to details of the feud as given in the H&McC wikipedia article, the producers seem to have hit it pretty good. The actresses who play Roseanna and Nancy McCoy are babes, too.

Re: Hatfields & McCoys
Thought it was extremely well done but noticed that McCoy (Paxton) was played way over the top crazy and Anse Hatfield (played by Kevin Costner) was very even handed and calm (more or less). As mentioned, it followed the story pretty well with minor variations for making it viewable. I so wanted to see the weasel lawyer get shot full of holes but it was historically accurate so he lived through it.
