"L5"

Post by Cybrludite »

A very impressive pilot episode for a hard science series being crowd funded & sourced. The basic premise is that Earth is facing a Malthusian-type disaster (Hey, every sci-fi show gets one impossibility...), so 40 or so of our best & brightest are sent on a twenty year mission (Seven to get there, six to study the planet, seven to get back) to investigate a planet in the Goldilocks Zone of Barnard's Star. Unfortunately, the planet doesn't work out, so the crew goes into hypersleep (a particularly nasty version of the trope at that) & heads to Earth on autopilot to bring back the bad news. When they awaken in our system, there's no lights on on Earth, and there are big O'Neil cylinders at the stable LaGrange points. They're dark as well. No radio broadcasts or microwave transmissions. Oh, and they're over 170 years late getting back to Earth.

Is it rapturously impressive?
A weak government usually remains a servant of citizens, while a strong government usually becomes the master of its subjects.
