Is Denzel Washington Cross-Eye'd Dominant?

Post by 308Mike »

I was watching Man on Fire and something about Denzel's shooting style struck me as odd but I just couldn't put my finger on it. Something about the way he was sighting and handling his handgun. I couldn't figure it out until I glanced at the Scene Selection insert then I spotted it.

His right hand is his strong hand, but he's closing his right eye and aiming with his LEFT eye. Even in this photo, it appears his arm is farther across his body while shooting than it would normally:

What do you think? Next time you watch him AIM a gun, see if you can tell which eye he's using to sight the gun. I suppose with a scope, it would be much easier for him to use his weak eye.

That would explain a lot, but it also brings up another question - WHY?

Why not just be a lefty if you can? I know something like picking up an available black rifle would have the brass ejected across the front of your face and I could see shooting it right-handed, most handguns work fine in the left hand, even if the brass is ejecting across your line-of-sight.

Looked as though Will Smith is also, looking at some of his photos from the movie Legend.

After I posted this thread, my said to me: I could have told you that (why he was using his right had even though he was a lefty).

Sometimes, your quickest answers are right here at home - if you ask.   :D :D

My wife's a smart cookie and that's one of the reasons I married her. Maybe I should ask her more trivia questions, if i think of them. After all, she's one of the smartest people I know, and there's nothing like being plugged into a genius (while we kiss)!! ;) ;)

Yup, the same thing happened to my mentor in the higher education field.

Hell, a good friend of mine who is left handed and probably in his early 40's at this point went to a public school in VA somewhere in the DC area. He told me about one of his teachers locking him in a closet or something because he refused to write with his right hand.

I got kicked out of third grade because my teacher decided that I should be right-handed. I didn't mind her grabbing the pencil and putting it in the wrong hand, but the third time she tried to crack me across the knuckles with a ruler, I grabbed her arm and bit her (to the tune of six stitches). My mom had me moved to the other third grade, where the teacher said "I don't care if he writes with his feet, as long as it's legible."

To this day, people will comment that I have really nice handwriting for a lefty.

I shoot much like Denzel but for another reason. A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with occlusions in my right eye. After 90 minutes of laser surgery on my eye (over an extended period, not all at once), vision in my right eye is like looking through a screen door. I shifted my stance and still keep my head straight. Only trouble is that I can't shoot bullseye matches right handed any more. I'm decent with my left hand but am still not comfortable using only the left.
