2002 F-150 Weird OBD issue

Post by Captain Wheelgun »

Question for the auto mechanics here...

I’ve been trying to get my truck inspected, and five different inspection stations have told me that their OBD readers can’t communicate with the truck’s OBD system. But when I hook up my personal OBD reader, it works just fine.

One shop suggested checking the fuse to the OBD port. I checked all of the fuses the manual said were related to the Powertrain Control Module or data communications, they were fine.

Any ideas? I’m not looking forward to chasing down electrical gremlins in a perfectly working truck, or worse, paying a mechanic to do that.

Maybe one of the pins/sockets that their connector uses that yours does not is damaged or dirty?

Maybe. I did try one more shop and they were able to read it with no problems.
