And I will, happily, turn over ownership to someone more tech savvy when asked.

What exactly is mewe?
HTRN, I would tell you that you are an evil fucker, but you probably get that a lot ~ Netpackrat

Speaking of this, my DIL wanted to get off FB messenger. We've moved to Signal. Is anyone else using Signal?
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

Got a placeholder mewe group "2A all the way" I set up as a divert airfield a couple years ago. Looking there I see a few names including Rumpshot...

Signed up to mewe. Social media seems like an endless parade of the newest, hottest thing. I hope mewe will have some staying power. I do change but clumsily.

Their pitch:
It’s your show. Share your world online your way, by your rules.

You own your content. You control your interactions. You design your level of privacy.

MeWe is where you can be your authentic self, the way you are in your real life.

MeWe challenges the status quo by making privacy the foundation of online social experiences.

MeWe does not share or sell your personal information to advertisers or marketers. There are no ads, no targeting, no newsfeed manipulation and NO BS!

Share content only with those you wish to see it. It's your online life, with trust, control, privacy and safety.

Their tout:
The MeWe Backstory

MeWe began in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as a vision hatched over a dinner between good friends who were early founders of social media. With Facebook all the rage, they felt something critically human was getting lost: the spirit of our democracy and the backbone of our privacy. The big technology companies, you know who they are, had reverted to treating us as commodities. They somehow mistook people signing up to use their services as a welcome invitation to target, track, spy, and sell our information to advertisers and the government. All in all, it felt pretty creepy.

MeWe founder, Mark Weinstein, dreamed of the next generation in online communications, envisioning a social and chat app that would give people everywhere the most exciting and helpful sharing technology with privacy built into the design - where members would feel safe and respected.

Mark relocated to Mountain View, California, in the backyard of technology’s established Goliaths, and built a worldwide team of visionary individuals - fun, good people determined to revolutionize social media and build a new platform to go head-to-head with Facebook and restore decency, privacy, and respect for social media users.

Mark created the Sgrouples beta project, hiring an engineering team to design and build the world’s first social network with privacy-by-design for its members. The 3-year Sgrouples beta project served as the testing platform for the launch of MeWe.

Making its official launch during SXSW 2016 (South by Southwest), MeWe was honored as the 2016 Start-Up of the Year Finalist for “Innovative World Technology.” World-renowned thought leaders proudly serve on MeWe’s Advisory Board, including the inventor of the World Wide Web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee.

MeWe is the visionary culmination of years of determined efforts, research, and development to provide people around the world with a communication network they love and trust.

I've been on it a little over a year. I got on during one of Larry Correia's FB Gulag time outs and the MHI group set up over there. Since then I've joined a several ham radio groups and "friends" with John Ringo, Tom Kratman and Oleg Volk (no censorship of his pictures there).

The biggest issue I've had is that I have a constant dozen or so friend requests from people I don't know (attractive single females that want to get to know me. Surrrre!) I just ignore them until they age out, but others continue to pop up.
...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

Used Signal the entire time I was deployed to Germany/Poland. Works well, and as a 3rd party app it handles group texts across the Android/iOS divide with aplomb.
