How can I clear search bar autofill?

Post by Yogimus »

Seems that due to events beyond my control, any letter I type into my search bar autofills to list a variety of sites that pander to my carnal needs. Is there a way to... resolve this issue?

Depends on what is causing the autofill... What browser are you using?

Have you checked for toolbars, BHOs or other spyware?

I don't use Firefox, but in general there should be a setting somewhere to clear your search history. I know Chrome and Opera have such.

Oh and consider switching to Chrome and using Incogneto tabs. Very handy.

In my FireFox browser, if you right click on the search bar there is an option for clearing history and another one for Show Suggestions.

Now might be a great time to mention a snazzy new tool we recently added to our arsenal. Magnet Forensics' Internet Evidence Finder makes it easy to extract "Private Browsing" histories from the swap file.

I... You know, there's no smarts ass comment I can think to make which can counter the horror engendered by the idea of Yogi's browser history...

I am pretty sure that will only last while the machine is on, rebooting it should clear the swap file... There are a lot of ways to get info so long as the machine is turned on, even to the point of freezing the RAM and then pulling it from the running machine and putting it on another device to recover its contents.

Most of the criminal forensic recovery tools I have looked at work best when the machine is not powered off before they are used. The FBI manuals flat out tell the recovery techs not to turn off or move the machine.

My browser history has probably got it's own NSA analyst assigned to it...he probably thinks I'm trying to build some ICBM's and a cruise missile with thermonuclear warheads...
