Analog synthesizers

Post by Highspeed »

I recently downloaded a software synthesizer, it claims to reproduce the 'Moog' sound.

Just a couple of things though...

1) I hate electronic music ( apart from electric guitars, obviously )

2) I can't play a keyboard and I have no desire to learn

So why am I interested in analog synths ? - quite simply because they have a lot of dials and switches to play with ;)

One thing I have learnt so far is that no matter what position you put those switches and dials in, every note produced will sound like part of the soundtrack from an 80's John Carpenter horror movie

Which software synth? the Arturia Minimoog emulation? its decent enough.

The Minimoog was used in a lot of non-electronic music and still is... some 'non-electronic' users? Rush, Yes, et al.

If you really want the 80s john carpenter sound, look for a VST called SQ-8L

Minimoog and the Modular. I prefer the modular because it has more dials and switches :D

My appreciation of keyboard playing is pretty much limited to JS Bach organ recitals and a guy called Dave Greenfield who played with a UK punk band called the Stranglers.

I own both of those... and a few analog synths... and a few hybrid synths and a few digital synths.

I did have a software guitar effects package that I actually used - it was the 'Jimi Hendrix' edition and it really did sound good.
My mate lent me a Gibson Flying V to use with it ( so he should have done, I rebuilt his Aston Martin engine for heavens sake :D ) - I'd sold my own guitar years ago.

Unfortunately when it comes to guitar I'm pretty much Dave Lister from Red Dwarf...
